As many as 23M Americans exposed to toxic ‘forever chemicals’ via treated wastewater: Study

A new study reveals that about 23 million Americans (7%) may be exposed to dangerous levels of PFAS through treated wastewater that enters drinking supplies. While the EPA regulates six PFAS chemicals, researchers found these make up less than 10% of organofluorines present, with pharmaceuticals comprising 75%. "These results emphasize the importance of further curbing ongoing PFAS sources and additional evaluations of the fate and toxicity of fluorinated pharmaceuticals," says incoming assistant professor Bridger Ruyle, who led the study.
