Elon Musk's humanoid robot: 'It shows less intelligence than a cat'

Tesla unveiled its latest Optimus humanoid robot, with Elon Musk claiming it can perform daily tasks and hold conversations, using a video to demonstrate its capabilities. Experts are skeptical, however. Associate Professor Ludovic Righetti points out: “The only [single-shot] video sequence that lasts more than a few seconds is the slow walk on flat ground. All other sequences are 2-3 seconds long before the point of view changes. As a roboticist, if I don’t see a single shot that captures a whole task, it usually suggests that the robot is not performing the task well – by the way, we always require uncut footage in scientific papers. Of course, this is about communication, not science, but this type of video suggests that all the other tasks the robot is performing are not working as well as the video is trying to suggest.”
