C2SMARTER’s 2025 Spotlight Series: Congestion Pricing in New York City

In line with our U.S. DOT-designated focus of Reducing Congestion, C2SMARTER has been closely monitoring the trajectory of New York City’s first-in-the-nation congestion pricing program. To augment publicly available data and analysis, C2SMARTER has released a Congestion Pricing Dashboard. It includes C2SMARTER’s Multimodal Density Tracker, which uses data from New York City's public traffic cameras to offer unique insights on congestion pricing’s impacts.
Coinciding with this release, the Center is hosting a series of events this spring and summer that bring together diverse industry experts to share their perspectives on congestion pricing in New York. This event series will cover the program’s history, development, and rollout in New York and its implementation in other global cities. Invited speakers will share their perspectives on the successes, obstacles, and opportunities for the program in NYC and beyond.
The first event is an in-person panel discussion on Thursday, April 17. This discussion will feature:
-
Charles Komanoff, leading expert on congestion pricing and the former head of Transportation Alternatives
-
Rachel Weinberger, Peter W. Herman Chair for Transportation at the Regional Plan Association
-
Brian Fritsch, Associate Director, the Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to the MTA
The panel will be moderated by John Falcocchio, Emeritus Professor of Transportation Planning and Engineering at NYU Tandon, who has over 50 years of experience in the field.
