Cybersecurity theory and research are critical today; your ability to get to new levels in your career and become a cybersecurity professional adept at tackling evolving threats has never been more important.

At the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, our MS in Cybersecurity program's curriculum is rooted in the belief that an accessible path to career advancement and learning to build real-world solutions are essential. To this end, we created NYU Cyber Fellows to provide a 75% scholarship for the Cybersecurity M.S. online and operate the National Science Foundation-funded Offensive Security, Incident Response, and Internet Security (OSIRIS) laboratory.

Curriculum Information

To complete the Cybersecurity M.S. program, students are required to earn 30 total credits and fulfill the following requirements:

  • 4 Core Courses (12 credits)
  • 3 Breadth Electives (9 credits)
  • 3 Depth Electives (9 credits)

Prerequisite Information

As with all of our MS programs, applicants are required to have received a 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. We also recommend that applicants satisfy all or most of the following prerequisite criteria in order to have the best chance of success in this program:

  • Knowledge of mathematics through calculus
  • Minimum 1 year of any university-level science
  • Good knowledge of a high-level, general-purpose programming language (preferably C++ and/or Python)
  • Knowledge of data structures and discrete mathematics

National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity Designation Tracks

NYU Tandon School of Engineering is one of the select institutions recognized by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C). Students may elect to specialize by taking specific courses in an area of concentration. Two tracks are available:

  • Cyber Defense
  • Cyber Operations

 

Experiential Learning for Credit

At NYU Tandon experiential learning opportunities provide students the chance to engage in practical, hands-on learning to refine technical and leadership skills. The MS in Cybersecurity program allows for students to complete various opportunities for credit counting towards degree requirements. In adherence with NYU Tandon Graduate Academic policies, students may not complete more than a combined total of 9 credits of project, guided studies, readings, or thesis toward fulfillment of the MS degree requirements.
