Spring 2025 Industry Women in Quant Panel

students in classroom listening to a panel of speakersThe Spring 2025 9th Annual Industry Women in Quant panel was a great success! Moderated by Sara Tomeo DeLusant, alongside accomplished panelists Edith Mandel, Riddhi Pathak, Adila Mchich, & Shreya Gossain, the students were thrilled to receive a wealth of advice and insights.

Some key messages from the panel: Stay ahead of trends by reading journals, engaging with clients, and attending conferences. Don’t be afraid to start small—every big career move begins with a single step. Work-life balance isn’t a perfect equation; some phases demand more from work, others from personal life (and that’s okay!). Valuable resources highlighted include Bloomberg, CFA & GARP events, IAQF memberships, and Toastmasters. Most importantly, technical skills matter, but soft skills are just as critical—you can build the most elegant model, but if you can’t communicate it effectively, its impact is lost.

NYU Tandon, Finance & Risk Engineering Department is truly proud to support and empower women in quantitative finance!

Technical Interview Expertise Panel with Alumni

students in classroom listening to a panel of speakersThis November 2024 Panel discussion focused on the essential elements of mastering technical interview preparation, providing invaluable guidance for those looking to break into the financial sector. The session covered a wide range of topics, including the differences between Buy-side and Sell-side roles, key certifications that can boost your resume, and the best resources to aid in preparation.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our expert panelists—Haojie Jing, CFA, Siyu Ye, Michael Lin, and Tinghao Li—for delivering an insightful presentation, followed by an engaging breakout session that allowed attendees to network and receive personalized advice.

To wrap up the event, Haojie Jing, a 2015 graduate, shared an important perspective on navigating the path to success:
“You are responsible for filling the gaps in your skillset, and you have to customize your own growth roadmap. Learning and testing are two different things… it’s critical to use resources in the right way.” - Haojie Jing

This valuable insight serves as a reminder that successful career growth is a personalized journey, where strategic learning and effective use of resources play a critical role in achieving your goals.
